Can i use my Acer upgrade disk for a Dell?

I bought a new laptop a few months ago and today i got windows 7 in the mail!!!

I used to work in a computer store and just spoke with my old boss there. I have a similar situation on my hands. He said make sure you have the recovery disks from your computer with Vista 64 on hand when you try this. In the past what you could do was try the install with the upgrade disk. At a certain point it’ll say that it can’t find the previous version of Windows necessary (since it’s a different system). Then insert the Vista recovery disk from your other computer and it may work. I’ll be trying this tonight at home.
