
Can MIDI Keyboard Controller be used for live performance?
Can sounds be stored on a MIDI keyboard controller such as an organ and a piano, and taken to a gig to play a show with? I don’t want to have to bring synth modules or laptops or anything like that. Just want a 49 key keyboard with an organ and a piano. Not interested in those Casio and Yamaha things that they sell at Best Buy etc. They don’t feel substantial enough and the sounds usually aren’t great.
Usually no you cannot load sounds to a midi controller. There however some samplers such as the Korg MicroSampler where you can load your own sounds and play them.

My recommendation is to get a good synthesizer keyboard. Some really good ones are the Roland SH-201 or if you want the small form factor then the Alesis Micron, or Korg Microkorg XL might be the ones for you.
